Eligibility criteria

  • The applicant must be from Twic East County by descent.
  • Applicant must have obtain 300 and above for girls and 360 for boys
  • The applicant must be someone who resides and sat for Kenyan Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in one of the schools in Kakuma Refugee Camp.
  • The applicant must not be recipient of other scholarship either from family, friend, government or non-governmental organization (NGO).
  • The applicant must submit her or his application form not later than 31st of December
  • The applicant must be from Twic East County by descent.
  • The applicant must be a girl.
  • The recipient must be willing to study in the school she is allocated to.
  • The applicant must demonstrate dedication towards education and reflected on her certificates/ reports.
  • The applicant must be someone who resides and sat for Kenyan Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
  • The applicant must not be recipient of other scholarship either from family, friend, government or non-governmental organization (NGO).
  • The recipient must consistently demonstrate academic excellence.

Selection criteria

  • Academic excellence (cumulative results will be taken into consideration not just KCPE results).
  • Performance in interview.
  • The recipient must provide all the documents requested from them.
  • Personal statement explaining why the applicant qualifies for the scholarship.

Scholarship conditions

  • The recipient must stay in school during the whole term and only come home for holiday except when they are sick and need further health attention, which will have to be first communicated to the program team.
  • The recipient would not look for a different school unless there is need to transfer which will have to be approved by the scholarship team.
  • The recipient must be willing to get involved in community service activities organised by scholarship program team.
  • The scholarship will only pay for school fees, transportation fees, other school requirements, and the recipient will be given stipend strictly for school needs.
  • The recipients will be free to travel during holiday time. However, they will be required to organise this themselves with their families and notify the program team as well as be able to come back before the school opens. The scholarship will not cover expenses for travels or holidays not related to studies.
  • The scholarship team will be responsible for visiting days during school term and this will be communicated with the school. There will be no visiting to schools by parents or friends and the scholarship team will have to be first notified where a compelling need for the visit exists.
  • The recipient will be expected to maintain excellent academic performance across the years of scholarship. If a recipient performs poorly, she will be given a first and second warning and be expected to improve their performance. Where poor performance persists beyond second warning, the program team will review eligibility of the recipient with a view to terminate the scholarship and find a replacement on basis of academic merits. The recipient under review will be notified in writing.
  • The recipient will be free to terminate the scholarship. However, she will be required to provide a written explanation for the termination.
  • The scholarship will not cover the cost of electronic gadgets such as phones, laptops, iPad, iPod and others equipment required for recipient’s personal use except where required by the school. The recipient must notify the scholarship team of such exceptional requirement where it hasn’t been done through the school’s admission process.

How to apply for Twic East Girls Scholarship Program (TEGSP)

  • Complete this application form: provide all information as specified on this form by the dateline. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • All required documents must be submitted with the application and not separately. Applicants will not be contacted for missing documents.
  • The recipient must be willing to get involved in community service activities organised by scholarship program team.
  • Lodge your completed application on our website within the allocated time and the team will contact you for the phone interview.

Scholarship checklist

  • Fill in the scholarship form providing all details where required.
  • Provide certificates/ school reports from class 6-8
  • A written personal statement not more than 500 words explaining why you are the right person for the scholarship.
  • Sign and date the declaration at the end of this application form.
  • Submit your application to the TEGSP team by due date.
  • Organize time for a phone interview with one of the scholarship team member.
